Hagi ware(萩焼) is pottery baked in the Hagi city area of Yamaguchi prefecture(山口県萩市).
It is characterized by the fact that tea and sake permeate, and the colour of the bowl changes after many years of use.

The water-repellent treatment does not last semi-permanently. The way to enjoy Hagi ware is that the water gradually penetrates the intrusive rock and slowly changes the look. (Intrusive rock (貫入) is a small crack caused by the difference in shrinkage between the soil and the glaze during firing)

The beauty of the changing scenery (state of the vessel) has become a highlight, and it has been loved by the tea masters as "Ichiraku, Nihagi, Sankaratsu"(一楽、二萩、三唐津).

All Hagi Ware products are wholly handmade. There is no identical piece offering. Irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture may occur and reflect the artisan nature of the product and should be embraced.
