Product Description

The products from Shunzangama Kiln in Kyoto are a reflection of generations of artistry and dedication to traditional Japanese ceramics. Established in the Showa era, Shunzangama(俊山窯) has been passed down through three generations, with each master inheriting the skills and knowledge from the previous while also adding their unique touch to the craft. The current master, Shunzan Mori, continues this proud tradition. Over the years, Shunzangama has participated in numerous exhibitions, including prominent ones across Japan, earning recognition for its exceptional craftsmanship. During our visit to their workshop in Kyoto this summer, we were able to see firsthand the beauty and precision that goes into every piece, from matcha bowls and tea cups to vases and plates, each item infused with a deep respect for traditional techniques blended with modern aesthetics.

Shunzan Mori’s leadership ensures that the kiln’s legacy remains strong, combining traditional methods with a refined, contemporary approach that appeals to modern tastes while honoring the past. Shunzangama's works are celebrated for their fine textures, subtle glazes, and intricate handcraftsmanship, gaining admiration not only in local markets but also internationally. These pieces are more than just functional; they symbolize the patience, skill, and artistry that define Japanese ceramic traditions. From the humble teacup to the more elaborate vases and plates, each product stands as a testament to Kyoto’s rich ceramic heritage and the enduring legacy of Shunzangama.

All Kyo, Kiyomizu Ware products are?wholly handmade. There is no identical piece offering. Irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture may occur and reflect the artisan nature of the product and should be embraced.
